How I Made Restringing a Danelectro 59 NOS+ Easier

I’ll probably forget, too.

  1. Masking tape. Put this on either side of the bridge.
  2. Wire clippers. Loosen the string enough to come off the peg. Clip off the really bendy end that used to be around the tuning peg. The rest pulls through with less fuss.
  3. A very slight bend at the pointy end of each new string will help it thread up the back
  4. Use a guitar pick for a ramp. See photo. The string hits the guitar pick then follows the smooth surface into your hand. This protects the paint job and eases the string right up the back of the bridge. Once enough string is on the pick, pinch it to the pick and pull.

I use masking tape on any guitar that doesn’t load the strings through the body. If something is going to scratch against the front of the guitar while restringing then I am going to protect the guitar with masking tape.

Quick note: I wrote this after successfully restringing the guitar. It is possible to slide a layer of tape under the strings to protect the other side of the bridge.

Man, I love this guitar.
